Attesting Qualifications for Qatar
If you are planning to go to Qatar for working purposes then there are different documents which you may require to be attested. These documents can vary based on what job you are taking up in Qatar and also the requirements of the people asking to see your documents. It is important that you get the correct documents attested or the position being offered.
The main type of documents which we legalise for people going out to work in Qatar are university degrees and other educational certificates. Virtually all companies in Qatar who recruit UK residents ask for attested degrees or a relevant qualification. The purpose of having them attested in the UK before travelling to Qatar is to prove to the employer that it is an official UK document. It is most common that degrees need to be attested, although if the person going to work in Qatar did not study at university it may be the next highest qualification they have achieved. The documents which need to be legalised are commonly the ones that relate most to the position being applied for.
Please note that the embassy have implemented new rules for customers attesting degree certificates for Qatar. Individual certificates cannot be legalised on their own. The Embassy now requests that applications for attestation must include the following THREE documents-
- Certificate or Diploma
- Transcript
- A cover letter from the education provider (university of college) confirming ALL of the following points –
- The mode of Study: Whether Full time or Part time
- The Type of study: Whether Distance Learning (E-Learning) or Face to Face learning (On campus)
- Location of Study
- Location of Examinations
- The actual dates of study (Start dates and the End date)
Therefore, if you would like to proceed with the service you are now required to provide all the documents as detailed above.
In some circumstances we are also required to legalise Criminal Record checks for use in Qatar. These are required so companies in Qatar are able to check on your history to ensure you have no convictions. If you do have convictions then it is likely this could affect your chances of getting the job. Background checks are often needed when applying for jobs which require working with children or working in the public sector, such as the local authorities/councils. Other workplaces may also request the Criminal Record checks to be presented although this is down to their own requirements.
If you are going to Qatar to work as a teacher then you will be requested to have your PGCE documents or your Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) attested. These documents provide evidence that you are qualified in the UK as a teacher. It is important to present these to your new work place to ensure they know you have the ability to teach in a school. Going through the attestation process will ensure that the people in Qatar are aware that you have the correct accreditation to undertake a teaching role.
